Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a practice that concentrates on apply firm and deep pressure into the tissues of the body in order to relax them. Often this modality gets the reputation of needing to create a level of pain in order to get deeper into the tissue, however, if the pressure results in a contraction from the body being worked on the benefit instantly disappear. The sweet spot is to find a range of pressure the feels deep but does not cause contraction and / or tensing from the client. If you’re working from a range of 1-10 (10 being the deepest), think of staying in the 5-7 range.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymph Drainage is a technique developed to stimulate and support the function and flow of the lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is essentially the healing, immune, and waste removal system for our bodies. By stimulating suction at the end of the system and then progressively draining the system with gentle skin stretching we can help the lymphatic load be processed.
Meditation
Meditation can be defined in any number of ways and experienced through any number of approaches. From my perspective, the point of meditation is to help us settle in towards ourselves and to live our lives with more intention and attention. Sessions can range from walking meditation to Yoga Nidra (Amrit Method) and from mantra to silence. Our focus will be on identifying techniques that work for you as an individual and enjoying the benefits.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial Release uses time and pressure to create a release within the fascial tissues of the body. Fascia is a connective tissue that permeates every aspect of physical form and helps to encase the different elements. Similar to muscle, fascia can become contracted and stuck in forms that we regularly take (think postural habits or long seats). The current theory is that deep pressure over an extended amount of time (minutes for each hold) helps trigger a releasing action within the fascia.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF Stretching)
PNF is a stretching technique that balances the active contraction of muscles with the assisted stretching of muscles in order to achieve a deeper physical stretch than when we simply stretch ourselves. This technique helps to assess which specific muscles are limiting movement and target them for more efficient releases within our form.
Pranayama
Prana is defined as life force energy, pranayama is the direction or manipulation of that life force energy. Different breath techniques allow us to harness our being’s energy and direct its flow or intent. It can also be used to open the door into meditation and self-study.
Oncology Massage
Also known as gentle touch, Oncology Massage is focused on providing medically safe massage session for those going through cancer treatment or living with the effects of it after treatment. Based on the individual’s journey with cancer, as session is customized to provide deep relaxation and a sense of human connection and compassion. Modifications include knowing how to move around ports, regulating pressure, awareness of the impacts of lymph edema, and more.
Reiki
Usui Reiki is a traditional Japanese energy healing technique. This practice includes little to no physical contact with the client and instead focuses on sensing the energy flow of the client’s being and encourage that energy body to connect with the spiritual healing energy of the universe channeled through the practitioner.
Sound Healing
Our bodies respond to frequency and vibration by seeking harmony. We can use sound healing instruments to create vibrations that settle our bodies and minds into higher frequencies restoring and enhancing our body’s ability to heal itself.
Swedish Massage
Commonly referred to as relaxation massage, Swedish Massage focuses on releasing tension in our physical body in order to relief stress. Through the combination of effluerage and petrissage the muscles experience contraction and relaxation, which helps to stimulate blood and lymph flow. While focuses on relaxation, Swedish massage can be just as therapeutic as any of the other massage modalities.
Thai Massage
Thai massage is a system of bodywork that focuses on clearing energy channels to warm up the body and then incorporates deep stretches and range of motion exercises to create a sense of spaciousness and ease in our form. This practice can also include Thai Foot, which is a practice of reflexology.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Therapy is often combined with Deep Tissue Massage in order to work deep knots within the physical body. Deep Tissue warms the body up and allows the massage therapist to assess the client’s physical state, then the use of different intense pressure techniques on specific areas of the body helps to release the knots.
Yoga
Yoga technically incorporates or includes a number of different practices ranging from physical postures to meditation. For the sake of my sessions, yoga is focused on the physical postures and can be worked from the point of flow yoga, chair yoga, yin yoga, restorative yoga and somatic movement. Essentially, we work the body and the breath to create freedom inside our physical form and a deeper sense of connection between our bodies and minds. We can use these practices to help rehab an injury, work through trauma, or simply enjoy being present with ourselves.
